Start with the front door
Check door operation, visible hardware, weather-stripping, address numbers and obvious trim or finish details.
Walk every room like a buyer
- Open and close interior doors
- Look for loose cabinet hardware
- Note wall damage and unfinished patches
- Check visible screens and window coverings
- Remove incomplete assembly projects and clutter
Use the inspection report carefully
An inspection report can include electrical, plumbing, roofing, structural and other items that require licensed or specialized contractors. Separate those from ordinary property tasks.
Prioritize visible and functional details
When time is short, start with operation, access and obvious presentation, then move to cosmetic details that fit the budget and schedule.
